Multiversus, which officially launched today in Early Access Open Beta (because that’s how video games work now) has done a lot to differentiate itself from Super Smash Bros. It does not have items, except for the ones generated by the characters themselves; it doesn’t have Smash Attacks or Final Smashes, though most character have a few charge attacks that are kind of like smashes; it groups characters into classes like support, tank, and bruiser and gives them unique utility to support their different playstyles, though admittedly, the best strategy is still to punch the other players until they go flying off the edge of the stage. For all the things Multiversus does to be different, it seems it hasn’t managed to veer very far off the path walked by Super Smash Bros.
